E. Mark Haacke, PhD
Director of MR Research Facility
Dr. Haacke's research interests include: MR Angiography, Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (SWI) to study vascular disease, Stroke Imaging, Better Detection of Cancer and Brain Function. He supervises graduates students in engineering, computer science and medical physics. He and Dr. Sehgal work together to enhance current clinical methods and take research ideas into the clinical realm.

Jaladhar Neelavalli, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Neelavalli's research interests include: Developing methods for quantifying tissue magnetic susceptibility non-invasively using MRI(quantitative susceptibility mapping). These methods are used for quantifying tissue iron content which have great application in studying various neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis and even normal aging. He currently works in close collaboration with the faculty at the Perinatology Research Branch of NIH and the Children's Hospital of Michigan in the development and application of quantitative MRI methods for assessing fetal brain injury.

Jiani Hu, PhD
Co-Director of the MR Research Facility
Dr. Hu's research interests include the development of MR spectroscopy and its utilization in studying metabolic changes that take place in diseases tissue. He is currently studying: West Nile disease, Breast Cancer and Neuromuscular Disorders.

Zhifeng Kou, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Kou's research interests are regarding neuroimaging of traumatic brain injury (TBI). He uses the advanced MRI techniques to improve the diagnosis of brain injury, better predict TBI patients long term outcome, and consequently to help physicians better treat the patients. His research spans from both human subjects and experimental animal model on TBI. In Dr Kou's team, the required research skills cover from signal processing (MR pulse sequence design), biomedical image processing, neuroscience, to clinical neuropsychology.
